Eating and Drinking in Alicante

There are dozens of various restarants clustered around the ayuntamiento – including a few places on calle Miquel Saler where you can eat couscous, and a couple of decent churrerias. Over on the other side of the town, calle San Francisco, leading off a square near the bottom of the rambla, has a group of restaurants known as tabernas, often with seats outside, and reasonably cheap menus. Also, in Plaza Santa Maria, opposite the baroque facade of the church you can find a few good restaurants serving excellent vegetatian food. Due to Alicantes’ relatively large non-Spanish population you can easily also find different international cuisines spread all over the city center. But, in order to taste some of Spanish traditional paella or sangria, or some of Alicante’s best cuisine such as excellent sea food and fish dishes or montaditos you can easily visit any of the numerous tapas bars.
